Unable to Engage Gear 7
The transmission cannot engage gear 7 when it is commanded. The element that should apply for gear 7 — shift solenoid, clutch pack, or band — does not build or hold pressure, so the gear never locks in. Symptoms are slipping, no power transfer in that gear, or a forced limp mode. Causes: a failed shift solenoid, a worn clutch pack, or a valve-body or hydraulic-supply fault on the gear-7 circuit.
Possible causes
- Gear 7 circuit failed high
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
